East Beach, The Simple Life on the Chesapeake Bay.

Welcome to my East Beach blog.  I hope you will visit often for news on East Beach and up-to-date Real Estate market information.  This blog will be an inside perspective of the East Beach neighborhood and community as seen from a residents and a Realtors view point.

For those of you who don't know, East Beach is located on the Chesapeake Bay, East of Shore Drive, North of Pretty Lake and  West of Little Creek Inlet.  The location is central to Norfolk International Airport, JEB Little Creek, interstate access to I-64 and I-264, down town Norfolk and the Virginia Beach Towne Center.

My name is Liz Destefano and I am a resident in East Beach and a Realtor.  I fell in love with this neighborhood for the first time when I visited in the spring of 2004.   Back then there was little more than a trailer sitting on the area called East Beach today.  Most of the area had yet to be cleared and if you looked close enough there were many signs of what was before it became East Beach.  I have heard that the area used to be home to Navy Housing, but since then it became an area off-limits to military personnel.  This gives you an idea of how bad it was out here years ago.  Luckily the city of Norfolk realized what a prime spot of land, this area is and eventually took it over by eminent domain.

In 1994 Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority hired DPZ to design East Beach and Urban Design Associates of Pittsburgh to create the East Beach Pattern Book.  The Pattern book serves as a guide to potential home buyers, architects, and builders for architectural styles suitable for East Beach .

DPZ is responsible for the award winning design of similar neighborhoods in the us.  Rosemary Beach in Florida   Rosemary Beach, Fl. and Seaside Seaside, Fl. also in Florida.  If you take a moment to browse though these two websites, you will find that the home prices range from just under 1 mill. to almost 5 mill.  So it is quite possible that East Beach will see similar spikes in property values once the neighborhood is complete.

With the resent Homarama event and favorable interest rates, home are selling quickly in East Beach.  Once again there is construction everywhere you look and the familiar sounds of nail guns and delivery trucks start early in the morning.  I am excited that this is again the norm here and find it a sure sign that East Beach is once again back on track to becoming the spectacular neighborhood it is intended to be.  So if you or anybody you know is considering a move to East Beach now is the time to act.  I can assist you both as a buyers or a sellers agent, so please do not hesitate to call me 757 708 8477.
